An Antarctic Voyage

Part 4 29 October 2006 Dear Moin It is nice to hear from you. Hope you are enjoying the trip to Vietnam. How long are you going to stay there. Have you made any contact with Shamsul?. We are still sailing through icy water of the southern ocean towards Mawson. Occasionally, the ship vibrates heavily on hitting solid ice. I keep on watching ice for hours through my port hole. While I was writing, I saw few penguins on the ice. Rushed outside to take photos. Could not stay longer than a few minutes - freezing cold. I need to put on Antarctic clothing. This afternoon I took video of a scenic iceberg - white as an angel surrounded by deep blue water. As I promised, we will have a barbecue and video sessions when I return. Most of the expeditioners disembarked at Casey. There are about 50 of them remaining on board. This evening I was talking to a gentleman who will disembark at Mawson and stay until April next year. He will be doing studies on rocks. I met another lady who will be studying penguins. There are people of different trades - plumbers, communication technicians, survival experts, scientists, cooks and so on. They love to spend time in Antarctic. Please write about your trip. Cheers Hannan |
