It is wonderful experience. One thing I would like comment "Probably our
liberation war was too short" for which after long 35 years of our independence,
we are still fighting within ourselves.
The difference between Bangladeshi & Vietnamese are probably:
1. Bangladeshis always look back while Vietnamese look ahead
2. We are not ashamed of illegal money, probably Vietnamese are better in this
respect
3. We are Not yet united for the cause of Nation building, but the Vietnamese
are united.

Brilliant! Haven't seen it all, though, but I found Hannan's Antarctic
expedition absolutely fascinating. Btw, I, too, was present, at the cricket
match in Dhaka on March 1st,1971, and am witness to the emotional scenes u
describe, and, now, a part of our history.

Dear Mr Hannan,
When I saw you last Friday in the mosque, I never realised that your absence
from Friday prayers for the last few weeks was dedicated to an exploration
adventure of unprecedented proportion, perhaps never undertaken so far by a
Bangladeshi! Allahu Akbar and He is the only one who can fulfil your dreams
and show you places and things your last fourteen generation did not have the
opportunity or the good fortune to see! I felt as if you were allowed to
see a part of heaven while still alive and before judgement on the day of
judgement! You have made all Bangladeshis in Australia and back home proud by
your unique and spectacular voyage of epic proportion when all of us could have
a glimpse of this most scenic unique creation through your eyes! May Allah
vouchsafe on you His choicest blessings so as to enable you, in the future
eventful years of your treasured life more such expeditions and brighten us
through your eyes and senses!

My name is Khalid M. Khan, I am holding a medium sized textile buying house
www.abtexinternational.com . I am educated in business with ample experience in
textiles. As much as I am learning about history of creation of Bangladesh I am
getting fan of Bangladesh.
I feel strange type of affiliation, respect and care for Bangladesh and Bangali
people since I first time visited Dhaka in Aug-2004.
This is very true that “ Pakistan was made by Bangali people ” the same sentence
said to me by my father when I was in Dhaka in Aug 05 and told them I found no
difference in place and people all like us and they love me too much and open
their home & hearts for me, but they were treated as third class citizens by
ruling class of Pakistan since the creation of Pakistan. This is another fact
and factor that Pakistan is ruled by some families more to be précised fuddle
lords, with management came from North India who helped British to rule United
India and then shifted to Pakistan along with army service men from Punjab. But
I tell you there were millions in public who never like the policies of ruling
class either in politics or in forces. People in all over Pakistan were treated
similarly either it was East Pakistan or West Pakistan, rulers just wanted their
seats fixed and they did not spare to shed blood and ruin respect of their own
sisters, mothers and daughters, even today we have apparent examples of the
same. Any how let me please tell you in forces of Pakistan many were court
marshaled and sacked in 1971 war because they denied fighting against innocent,
unarmed their own brothers and sisters in East Pakistan. My father was in PAF
and was one of them.
Anyhow, I appreciate your article. It is really informative and I wait for its
remaining part.
Further incase you can let me know books/articles preferably available on net
about Bangladesh, Bangladeshis abroad & NGOs etc, I shall be pleased to read
about more and more.
I am also willing to do something in Dhaka for my poor brothers and sisters and
if any thing you feel I can do or participate please let me know I will try my
best to be part of it very honestly and very humbly with cause to help my people
with love and affection not for the sack of mercy.
With best regards and lot of prays for you and for those who lost their lives in
war of liberation.
Thanks and regards

I quickly browsed your narratives: Reliving History With Hindsight. I liked it. I hope people will write their eye witness accounts of the independence movement. We need more of such personal writings before few politician monopolising the history of our independence movement and tinting it with their political ideology. I Hope you will continue adding to your writing including some pictures as you have done so far. Who is the man in the picture clinching his fist high [look like Mao-lana Bhashani (may Allah bless him), but can't see the famous cap - may be my eye sight is more to blame than the picture]? I hope to revisit your site and wish to leisurely enjoy a pictorial tour of your trail.

I have been reading your interpretation of B'desh history. It's excellent and I think a neutral and honest view of the war and it's aftermath. However, I have some suggestion for the page format and background colour: I think the writings should not be on the whole screen but have left and right margins which would be more reader friendly. And secondly, I think the background colour should be simply white; the colour people are used to reading. Congratulations on your excellent writing.

Quick review of the Foreword (Charu's Conversation ?) in Moin Ahsan's Website contribution - 'Bangladesh - Reliving History with Hindsight' indicates, he tried to imply the perilous state of current Bangladesh society is the result of Bangladesh's liberation and he singled out the mistakes of Sheik Mujibur Rahman for that to occur (I didn't read the chronology). If that is what he tried to imply (I may be wrong in my interpretation) it is really unfair to say the least. I believe as a Bangladeshi we all played a part for the hopeless situation Bangladesh is currently in, and our collective misadventure in almost all aspects of life, culture and belief system, history and geography (cruel nature) undoubtedly influenced our current fait. It is outright wrong to assign blame to an individual, who has the vision for a better future at least before the independence of Bangladesh.

Helal Morshedi
RESPONSE:
Date:
Wed, 23 Jun 2004
Dear Mr. Morshedi,
Please read the the Forewords and the article carefully, read it as a whole - It states and analyses exactly what you said in your email:
" I believe as a Bangladeshi we all played a part for the hopeless situation Bangladesh is currently in, and our collective misadventure in almost all aspects of life, culture and belief system, history and geography (cruel nature) undoubtedly influenced our current fate."
The question at the beginning is an authentic question from a very young Bangladeshi who knows very little of History because of all the political rhetoric's and political propagandas. The article will try to analyse and connect the various forces that were at play at different stages of Bangladesh's history that contributed to today's Bangladesh. Please do not get touchy or emotional with isolated phrases without considering the context in which it is said.
Thanking you for your comments.

I felt like amused and astonished to realize the depth of your knowledge of Bangladesh and her birth. I welcomed your effort to make it palatable for the inquisitive minds. It is an indifferent and completely unbiased relay of our history. Our present generation will learn the truth amidst the distortion of facts from your dissertation. Thank you so much. Carry on bro. Hello Moin,
I briefly visited your quite extensive web site just now. One needs more time to read it all. It brought back many memories of our 4 month trip to South America from August to December just last year. We visited, Ecuador, Peru, Bolivia, Chile and Argentina. I guess we were more fortunate than you in one way as we did not really do any set bus tours but organised and did our own thing over that period. We spent close to three weeks in and around Cusco visiting most of the places you mentioned but actually doing the full four day Inca Trail, culminating at the Macho Pichu ruins and then a trip to the hot spring baths and a night at Aguas Callienta. I have just started work (in February this year) with Finance in BASB located in Tourism House. I know we look forward to many more fascinating trips but South America was fantastic and as good as if not better than South East Asia which we did in 2000. When we travel we backpack (and we are middle age) and often stay in hostels and guest houses where we can.
Cheers

Moinul Bhai,
Thank you so much for letting us share your joy and adventuresome experience of South America trip. Perhaps you are the first Bangladeshi who visited Easter Island, Ushuaia and Cusco. I appreciate your choice of places to visit. You've become " Magellan of the 21st. century" to us. Generally a wealthy person of Bangladeshi origin will not spend his money to visit through this Gringo Trail. Will he? Kids enjoyed the pictures and text very much. Nature is absolutely beautiful there, very different from rest of the world. Yes, the history of the Ona and Fuegian Indians of Terra del Fuego is lost and the Conquistadores didn't give it a sincere try to preserve their history.
Moinul Bhai, we are grateful to you.

Dear Moin Uncle,
We have just finished reading your online diary. It was really good. We both enjoyed it a lot. The article is also very educational. We learned many things about South America. I especially liked the part about the Incas. They were an extraordinary civilization. Isn't it amazing how they had such good technology and architecture so long ago. Maisarah really enjoyed the part about the whales in Peninsula Valdes. We both think that you would make a wonderful author. This diary's information would be very fun and educational book on South America. We will keep in touch, and if you need us to take a look at any new information, you know where to reach us.

Hey, sounds like you had an interesting trip. I am planning to go to Chile in October of 2004, and plan to be there for 2-3 months. The biggest reason I am going is to see where my father died, a helicopter pilot, in Linarus. I am interested in trekking the Patagonians for a month, and was wondering if you could give me an idea where to find info about the gringo trail, it sounds interesting. I am 20 years old, and an avid hiker, climber, and mountain biker, managing a bike shop in Canada now, and taking the winter off to trek in Chile. Any info you could help me with would be great, thank you.
